About

gold sparkles

Chrysalis Collective just came into being this year and is the result of a shared vision between Maura and Becca; graduate school cohort-mates turned business partners. Both are trained as dance/movement therapists, hold licenses in counseling, and feel passionately about the role community and connection to body and nature play in overall mental health.

Chrysalis hopes to soon expand our offerings to include more in-person group programming and workshops focused on movement therapy, therapeutic dance, and eco-therapy. We would one day love to have a space of our own and to continue partnering with other local holistic practitioners to offer more community centered, affordable care options!

Hi! My name is Maura (she/her). I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Illinois and Washington, as well as a Board-Certified Dance/Movement Therapist. I take a special interest in helping people reconnect with their body’s non-verbal language and deepen their understanding of how this relates to their life experiences and identity. I find the intersection between the psychotherapeutic use of movement and traditional ‘talk’ therapy to be a powerful inroad to expanding our understanding of our own emotions.

I feel passionately about protecting, and empowering ALL bodies, and with this comes an ever-growing awareness of the ways in which our culture can oppress, harm, and stigmatize bodies and identities. I approach my work through a trauma-informed lens; understanding that the beliefs and behaviors we might be coming to therapy to change may also be the very resources that have served to keep us safe and protected against various systems of marginalization. I take a particular interest in joining clients as they confront the many messages we receive about how our bodies ‘should’ look, feel, or move.

I see clients as the experts of their own bodies and experiences. My approach to therapy is highly collaborative, as I take a focus on building a safe space and relationship that invites in my client’s personal narratives. I attempt to meet my clients wherever they may be on their journey and join them in deepening our collective understanding of their story.

In my free time, I enjoy exploring nature, spending quality time with my dog, cooking and sharing food with loved ones, escaping into reality tv, and (of course) a good dance party!
